So, here are a few pointers on how to make a good first impression in your first meeting.
Make sure that you:
- Know your audience: always find out about who you’ll be presenting to before you enter the room
- Establish a rapport: remember that the decision-makers are human. Your presentation should be a dialogue, not a monologue
- Keep it simple: the perfect presentation is simple, clear and persuasive
- Keep it succinct: shorter is better. The presentation itself should take no more than 20 minutes
- Know your stuff: preparation is key, so be ready to answer a wide range of questions
- Start strong: by talking directly to your audience
- Keep it light: don’t try to be funny, instead be bright and enthusiastic
- Use the “presenter’s instrument”: eye contact, facial expressions, voice, gestures, stance and posture to get your message across
